Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati
We kick off our journey from the riverine port city of Guwahati. The team will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. A tour briefing is scheduled for the evening where you meet your fellow travellers. The tour captain will provide all relevant information about the journey ahead and apprise you of the currently prevalent weather and road conditions.
Day 2: Guwahati - Bomdila
After coasting all the way to Tezpur on some impeccable tarmac, we start wading our way through the wilderness of the Nameri national park. We crossover to Arunachal Pradesh from Assam at Bhalukpong, the flatlands rise up to rolling hills that get narrower and tighter with every passing turn. We end the day in Bomdila - the headquarters of the West Kameng district.
Day 3: Bomdila - Tawang
Though the journey is shorter than the previous day, the serpentine mountain roads make it extremely demanding. The weather changes drastically as we climb down to the valley of Dirang and then scale up Se La, the first high-altitude pass of our journey. Se La is situated at an altitude of 13,680 ft ASL and will have plenty of snow during this time of the year, which makes riding across it an extremely exciting event. On a clear day, one can see the mountain ranges of both Bhutan and Tibet from here!
Day 4: Tawang exploration
Tawang town, the headquarters of the district of Tawang, shares its borders with Bhutan and Tibet. The town is situated at an altitude of 10,000 ft ASL and will be replete with snow, this time of the year. With some luck, you might even experience a fresh bout of snowfall. We take this day easy and explore the many local attractions of Tawang. We visit a couple of frozen high-altitude lakes and also try to make it to Bum La if the weather and local authorities allow us.
Day 5: Tawang - Dirang
On this day, we explore the biggest Monastery in the country - Gaden Namgyal Lhatse. The monastery is perched on top of a hill which offers beautiful vistas of the Tawang Chu valley. We then start the return leg of our journey. We cross over the Se La yet again and cruise down to Dirang
Day 6: Dirang - Nameri
We start our day early on this day. We explore a less trodden road and reach the Nameri national park if the weather supports. Nameri, unlike its more popular counterpart, the Kazrianga is less crowded and makes for a perfect off-beat wilderness stay.
Day 7: Nameri - Guwahati
After an optional early morning safari, we cruise along the highways back to Guwahati. Bid goodbye to your fellow riders/travellers and the Nomadic Soul team. One can board a flight on the same day or choose to stay back and recuperate.
